A Kardashian Is Measured In Seconds, Not Days

How many Kardashians is this bit of info worth?

Do you measure a Kardashian as “how long something lasts” or “how long it holds your attention”? There’s been a little confusion on the Net over the past couple of weeks about that.

Ethan Zuckerman, blogger and activist, came up with the very useful idea of the Kardashian as a unit – although its usefulness does depend a little on things like gender and orientation. As Zuckerman noted in My heart’s in Accra, “Conceptually, the Kardashian is the amount of global attention Kim Kardashian commands across all media over the space of a day.” In objective fashion, Zuckerman goes on to say he “think(s) of the Kardashian as a unit of perspective.”

The unit has, however, been misrepresented as “72 days of marriage,” which is the length of time the lady behind the name stayed married. Neither is that what was intended, nor it useful as a unit of perspective.

We’re clarifying because it’s easy to get confused: Google “kardashian unit” and you’ll get all the wrong info...

Draft law proposes to collate samples even from "suspects"; does not specify how your data will be protected.

TechTree Blog: Govt Tries To Get Under Your Skin With DNA Profiling Bill

Way back in 1976, Sanjay Gandhi's compulsory sterilisation policy created ruffles across the country. Deemed to be a failure, the move did bring forward the extent to which the government can control lives of a common man, despite being the world's largest democracy. 36 years later, there is yet another controversial move making rounds; this time around the UPA government is all set to introduce a DNA Profiling Bill during the winter session of Parliament. If brought into force, the new law will enable authorities to collect DNA data from citizens, even if they are mere "suspects" in a criminal case. Once cleared by the court, the data will be returned...

Summer 2012 Buyer's Guide: Headphones And In-Ear Monitors (IEMs)

This guide essentially covers headphones and In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) under Rs 6,000. That's the amount of money most average users are willing to spend on these products. I don't advise opting for easily visible brands, if your budget is under Rs 3000. Well-known manufacturers are too bloated with greater operational overheads to offer decent audio fidelity in the budget to mid-end IEM \ headphone segment...
