Xiaomi’s Budget Mi 4c Packs In A Flagship Snapdragon 808 chipset

After making headlines with the Redmi Note 2, the Mi 4c will grab attention if launched globally.

Xiaomi today announced its Mi 4c smartphone in its home market, China. While the device looks similar to the currently available Mi 4i, the device does pack in some power with a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset inside.

Yes, you read that right! Xiaomi has built a budget smartphone that packs in a flagship chipset. And while we have no clue how the company manages to pull it off, they have done it in the past, with the launch of its Redmi Note 2 that has yet to arrive in India.

While the Redmi Note 2 packs in a MediaTek Helio X10 chipset from the HTC One M9+, the Mi 4c’s SoC is currently available in the flagship LG G4 and also expected in the upcoming Google Nexus 5X.

While the Xiaomi Mi 4c looks similar to the Mi 4i on the outside, we do get some new hardware bits on the inside:

  • We have a 5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display on the front
  • Inside, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, hexa-core chipset clocked at 1.8 GHz equipped with 2/3 GB of RAM and 16/32 GB of internal storage
  • There is a 13 MP camera on the back with an LED flash and a 5 MP unit up front
  • Connectivity options include a USB Type C port, which is why the ‘c’ in the Mi 4c
  • All of the above is powered by a 3,080 mAh battery

Indeed, Xiaomi fans in India will be dying to get their hands on such a well-specd device. But Xiaomi has yet to make plans to introduce the Redmi Note 2 so the Mi 4c may be really far away.

Coming to the pricing, the Chinese smartphone maker has priced the 16 GB model of the Mi 4c at Rs 13,000 (approximately) and the 32 GB one for Rs 16,000 (approximate) for the Chinese market.
