Nokia Unveils Lumia 525 With 1 GB RAM

The budget Windows Phone 8 handset will ship with Nokia Camera software.

As we had reported earlier this month, Nokia has announced the successor of its highly-popular budget WP8 handset Lumia 520. Dubbed as the Nokia Lumia 525, the new phone packs in double the amount of RAM compared to its predecessor. With 1 GB of RAM, you can expect even high-end games such as Asphalt 8 and Modern Warfare 4 to work on the 525.

Apart from the RAM upgrade, the new phone is almost similar to the 520. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset with a 1 GHz dual-core CPU and Adreno 305 GPU. Other specs include a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera, 8 GB internal storage, and microSD card slot (up to 64 GB). However, if you were hoping to see a front-facing camera, you're in for some disappointment. Seriously, Nokia and Microsoft, why not make Skype available to more people?

Coming to the subject of software, the 525 runs Windows Phone 8 Update 3 out-of-the-box. Being a Lumia device, the phone comes with a set of exclusive apps including Photobeamer, HERE maps, Nokia Mix Radio (earlier known as Nokia Music), and Nokia Camera. Yes, it's the same camera app that we've seen on the Lumia 1020. That possibly explains why Nokia has opted for 1 GB of RAM. There's no official word on the device's pricing and availability in India, but considering that the Lumia 520 sells for around Rs 8000, you can expect its successor to be priced at around 10-12k.
