New BlackBerry Curve 9320 Now Available For Rs 16,000

Research In Motion (RIM) has launched a new smartphone, the Curve 9320, in India. Reportedly, the main highlights of this device include the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) and a long battery life.

According to the company, the 9320 features the best keyboard in its class and even includes a dedicated BBM key. The handset has a 2.4" screen with pixel dimensions of 320x240. Apart from that, it comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, micro-USB port, GPS, FM radio, 3.1 MP main and a front VGA camera, microSD card slot, and a 1450 mAh battery. The phone runs on BlackBerry OS 7.1 and comes pre-loaded with Facebook and Twitter apps...

Google Didn't Infringe On Oracle Patents, Decides Jury In Android Suit

The long drawn battle between Oracle and Google over patent infringement in the latter's Android mobile OS seems to be nearing conclusion now. The jury has decided that Android does not violate any patents, as claimed by Oracle. This has come as a major relief for the search giant, whose mobile OS enjoys a significant share of the smartphone market. Oracle's bone of contention in the lawsuit was against Google's using Java source code in its mobile operating system.

The trial that was initiated in April and lasted three weeks, relieved Google of eight counts on patent infringement claims...

Sony Mobile has launched three new Xperia smartphones – U, P, and sola, in India today. This was the official launch after they were announced last month, when we had a chance to take a first look at the three models. They still come with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), although the world has been moving fast to ICS. However, Sony says that an update will be made available by June this year. The Xperia U and P smartphones with large touchscreens belong to the higher-end Xperia NXT line-up of next generation mobile phones, whereas the sola is a mid-range phone. Samsung had recently started shipping its GALAXY S II (GS2) smartphones pre-installed with Android 4.0, however, reportedly the company seems to have left out key features during the OS upgrade. It has been noted that the UI appeared similar to the Gingerbread version of TouchWiz even after the ICS upgrade, and apparently, this is just the tip of the iceberg. While it does bring many of the features that come standard with the new mobile OS, the screenshots comparison between the upgraded GS2 and the GALAXY S III from the report shows that it is not exactly ICS that you are getting. If you've decided not to wait for the GALAXY S III, opting to settle for its predecessor instead, we've a good news for you. No, Samsung hasn't slashed the prices, but it's now shipping the GALAXY S II (GS2) pre-installed with Android 4.0.

News started spreading, as a few buyers of GS2s expressed their delight on Twitter. Reportedly, only the devices imported in April or later are offering ICS firmware out of the box. Sadly, those who already own a GS2 in India, will have to wait further for the OTA (Over The Air) update to be made available...

Karbonn Mobiles has launched a new dual-SIM GSM mobile phone, the KT21 Express, adding one more to its expanding fleet of handsets. Sporting a metallic finish, this touch-and-type feature-phone boasts of Hindi language support. It also comes with a 2.8" capacitive touchscreen and a 3.2 MP camera with LED flash that doubles up as a flashlight. It has 16 GB of internal memory, expandable to 32 GB via a microSD slot. Multimedia features include the ability to record and play multiple video and audio formats, as well as receive over 50 live internet TV channels, probably via the NexGTv app. I'm pretty sceptical though as to how you could possibly enjoy watching anything on such a tiny screen...

Samsung India has begun accepting pre-orders for its upcoming GALAXY S III smartphone. If you are among the teeming millions clamouring for its quad-core goodness, you'll have to shell out Rs 2000 at the official online store to book one. The listing even promises an "assured free gift" for the faithful.

However, since there are reports of GALAXY S2 variants confirmed with less-than-spectacular hardware configurations in Japan (NTT Docomo) and US (Verizon), let's hope Samsung doesn't plan on conning Indian buyers with a castrated SoC...

It is powered by a 312 MHz CPU that claims to run applications faster. While that claim may or may not be true, it will certainly help delivering better battery life with the lower clock speed and a 1150 mAh battery.

After several leaks, HTC has finally announced the Desire C. Going by the looks, it seems like a successor to the HTC Explorer. Despite being a budget smartphone, the handset runs Android 4.0 out of the box.

The Desire C is powered by a modest 600 MHz CPU, and has 512 MB of RAM. Its 3.5" screen has pixel dimensions of 480x320. Apart from that, it features a 5 MP camera, 4 GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1230 mAh battery. XAGE has launched a new handset, the M738. This dual-SIM (GSM) phone caters to the low-end market segment and features a touch interface.



The M738 has a 2.8" display that comes with pixel dimensions of 320x240 in all probability. It has a primary as well as front camera, both with a 2 MP sensor. Other features include microSD card slot, music player, FM radio, Bluetooth, GPRS, USB port, and a 1100 mAh battery.

If you are a prepaid customer instead, the amount will be taken off from your balance talktime. This move will offer respite to those who are uncomfortable using credit cards to purchase apps from the store.

The store features over one lakh apps and content modules, and the company suggests that its India store caters to over than 60 million downloads a month. Until now, consumers could purchase premium content only using credit cards...

It's a good time to be a developer. If you love developing smartphone apps, you definitely want to check out Samsung Smart App Challenge 2012. This contest is a part of the Korean electronics giant's endeavour to promote quality applications for the GALAXY Tab and GALAXY Note. A prize money of $4.08 million (Rs 21.5 crores approx.) will be given out to 80 winning entries.

The contest is divided into two categories - Samsung Apps Super Apps and Best S Pen Apps (for the GALAXY Note). The former category will see 30 gaming and 30 non-gaming apps take away prizes, whereas the latter will select 20 prize-winning entries that use the S Pen's functionality in "interesting and experiential ways"
