Xiaomi Mi 4 To Launch In India On January 29

Is it a bit too late? Well, with the right pricing we think not.

We somehow knew that this would happen. It is Xiaomi’s strategy. We are talking about the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 4. Somehow somewhere we knew that the Mi 4 would be launched only after the launch of the Mi Note, Xiaomi’s newest flagship device. Well, we have finally received an invite and we can say for sure that the smartphone will be announced for the Indian market on the 29th of January.

It is Xiaomi’s very own secret sauce indeed. The company extends the shelf life of their smartphones in order to lower prices in developing markets. The Mi 4 for example is now almost 6 months old. In that time we have seen the Snapdragon 805 appear and now are looking forward to the first devices running the Snapdragon 810 platform with 64-bit processing. So technically, you cannot compare the Mi 4 with a flagship in 2014 (in terms of pricing).

Xiaomi’s latest flagship (for India) on the other hand sports the Snapdragon 801 chipset. While it has a capable processor, the hardware is a bit old now (considering that the Nexus 6 sports an 805) which is why we are expecting the smartphone to sell at an extremely low, sub Rs 20,000 price tag.

Now compare the YU Yureka (octa-core, 64-bit, Snapdragon 615) that costs Rs 9000 with a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G (quad-core Snapdragon 400) that costs Rs 10,000, and you will get a clearer picture about what we are thinking.

Xiaomi fans will indeed not be disappointed though, as the Mi 4 packs the latest MIUI V6 (with Jelly Bean KitKat as the base).

Clearly at the rate at which Xiaomi is rolling out smartphones with older hardware, we can expect the Mi Note to reach India only by the end of the year. Still then, we wonder what OnePlus One fans are thinking, since the One is clearly stuck with a Snapdragon 801 SoC until the OnePlus Two comes out.

As of now let’s hope that Xiaomi’s mid-range, flagship sees a launch date closer to the announcement as the smartphone seems to be delayed enough; and Indian Mi fans simply cannot wait.
