HTC To Launch One M8 With Windows Phone On August 19

Will the Taiwanese smartphone maker’s second stint with the Windows Phone be a good one?

All those HTC loyalists who refused to shift to Windows Phone simply because HTC never took much interest in the platform will now be in for a treat. The struggling Taiwanese smartphone maker is apparently ready and geared up for its second trial with the Windows Phone platform in the form of the One (M8) handset running the Windows Phone OS. The company has sent out invites for an event scheduled in New York on the 19th of August, which clearly falls in line with past rumours of an HTC One (M8) handset powered by the Windows Phone OS.

HTC should be worried, since its first attempt with the Windows Phone platform, (which it literally ruled thanks to number of handsets that it released) did not go to well for reasons best known only to Microsoft. However, this time around, Microsoft has established itself as the third biggest mobile platform under iOS and Android, which means things cannot go as bad as the last time.

The biggest question is whether HTC will get access to Microsoft the way Nokia currently does. There is a reason why Samsung barely releases a handset a year, while Sony never ventured into the Windows space (apart from its ultra books) but has planned handset for 2015. Still then, it will be interesting to see what level of customisation HTC will be granted more so thanks to the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 which will indeed help manufacturers differentiate their handsets from one another on a software level.
