Sony Teases Its Upcoming Xperia Z2 Ultra; Can We Expect A QHD Display?

With Sony losing out to LG only with the Z2’s display, it may opt for a QHD with its upcoming phablet.

It looks like the successor to Sony Xperia Z Ultra, which was released last year, may well be around the corner and if the teasers are anything to by the device may be much bigger than expected.

Sony has teased us with an image on the official Sony blog clearly showing the side profile of the device and the side button appears to be a tiny, which is why we have a good feeling that it is indeed something larger than a smartphone.

As of now, the Z Ultra is well on its way to receive the KitKat update, meaning that Sony would indeed have to add something new to the Z2 Ultra to make it a better sell. This new hardware feature could come in the form of a QHD (2560 x1440 pixel) screen, which fits the bill quite easily considering that LG has already proved that mass production for such screens have already begun.

There is indeed not much that we know about the upcoming Xperia Z2 Ultra. There have been no leaks or rumours regarding the phablet-sized device. Sony has either kept things well under wraps, or the leakers are just not interested.

Last year’s offering bought in a powerful quad-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor which came with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. Clearly, it was a pretty powerful device back then, with specs to match this year’s competition as well.

With Samsung’s rumoured metal-clad GALAXY S5 Prime and HTC’s M8 Plus all set for a likely September release, we can expect Sony to come out with something beefier with its Z2 Ultra. Unless of course they plan to include something exciting into their next flagship the Xperia Z3, which according to the six month refresh cycle should see an announcement soon.
