Vodafone Also Offers Free Roaming At Rs 5 Per Day

But only incoming calls are free; also offers more plans for choice.

Vodafone has also joined the fray of telecom operators in India who have started offering "free roaming", albeit in limited ways. The telecom giant is now offering a Special Tariff Voucher of Rs 5 with 1 day validity, which waives off charges on incoming calls while on roaming. Outgoing calls are charged at a pulse rate of 1.5 paise/second. Customers can activate the plan by dialling *444*500# from their handsets. In addition to this daily plan, the company is also offering monthly plans with the same benefits, at a cost of Rs 71 for prepaid and Rs 75 for post-paid subscribers.

And that's not all — Vodafone has also introduced two new Roaming Tariff Plan (RTP) and Roaming Tariff Plan Free (RTP FR) for its subscribers. The RTP with reduced charges on incoming calls costs Rs 149 per month for post-paid users, and Rs 64 with 180 days validity for prepaid users. RTP FR is available for post-paid customers at Rs 149 per month and starts at Rs 196 for prepaid users and has free incoming calls. The rates vary slightly depending on the telecom circle, so you might want to check out what's applicable for you on the Vodafone website.

Vodafone has joined the bandwagon of providing "free roaming" plans after BSNL, airtel, and Idea did the same a few days ago. This is in line with TRAI's recommendation, but we are yet to see completely free roaming from any of the said operators. With telecom authority's blessings to not go all-out and offer free roaming, we don't see it happening in the near future.
