Android 4.0 Zen UltraTab A900 With 9" Screen Launched For Rs 8000

ICS-based slate features a 1.3 mp camera, Wi-Fi, 3G dongle support, and 1.5 GHz CPU; several apps bundled along.

Zen Mobile has launched the UltraTab A900 tablet, which runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The USP of the A900 is that it brings you a 9" 5-point capacitive touchscreen at an affordable price. The WVGA pixel dimensions are, however, just 800x480 — so we can't expect too much in terms of viewing experience. The 1.5 GHz CPU has just 512 MB of DDR3 RAM. Internal storage is only 4 GB, which can be augmented by a 32 GB microSD card. The tablet features a 1.3 mp front camera. The 4000 mAh battery claims to provide 3.5 hours of 720p video playback or over 14 hours of power with Wi-Fi usage, which — in my opinion — is too good to be true for a tablet with such a large screen. Here are the product specifications:

  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with custom 3D UI; Adobe Flash; Preloaded apps: Nimbuzz, Mig 33, Paytm, ibibo, Teenpatti, Rummy, Bollywoodji, nexGTV, Kundli, MapmyIndia, Readers Hub, and Music Hub.
  • 1.5 GHz CPU with 512 MB RAM.
  • 9" 5-point capacitive touchscreen with pixel dimensions of 800x480.
  • 1.3 megapixel front camera.
  • 4 GB internal storage; 32 GB microSD card slot.
  • 4000 mAh battery with 3.5 hours backup for 720p video playback or 14 hours for Wi-Fi browsing.
  • USB 2.0 with OTG, 3G dongle support, Wi-Fi, 3.5 mm headphone jack, Does not have HDMI.
  • Orientation sensor.
  • 9.4" (l) x 5.85" (w) x 0.46" (11.8 mm) (d); 512.9 g.

In addition to Wi-Fi, the tablet supports 3G dongles for internet connectivity. USB OTG lets you connect various peripherals — keyboard, mouse, and USB storage drives. Unfortunately, there is no HDMI port to connect to a larger screen.

At Rs 8000, the Zen UltraTab A900 is affordable. It will be initially marketed by HomeShop18, although at the time of writing, the portal is yet to put up a product page. The big screen is definitely a plus for this device, but the low ppi, resulting in larger pixels, will be off-putting while watching videos. Our experience with 7" WVGA tablets has been far from satisfactory.
