NVIDIA’s Shield Tablet To Get Android Lollipop By November End

Skipping smartphone manufacturers and even Motorola, NVIDIA will be the first to out a Lollipop update.

While Motorola was indeed the first brand to jump up and announce that it will be delivering the Android Lollipop update for its smartphone range, we haven’t heard form them since the last announcement. While we are pretty sure that they are hard at work optimising the source code for their Motorola devices, we still have no roadmap as of today. In a strange turn of events, GPU manufacturer NVIDIA has put out a video recently, that shows the features that its new Android Lollipop update for the Shield tablet brings. So will NVIDIA be the first manufacturer to deliver Lollipop updates to a non-Nexus device?

Well in a way the answer is yes. The company confirmed through the video that it is going to deliver the new update as early as this month. Indeed that is pretty quick and coming from a company that has only outed a few mobile devices so far. Normally we would expect such announcements coming from Motorola, similar to what we heard when KitKat was announced by Google.

Android Lollipop is indeed a big update and while the are a ton of optimisations under the hood, the update also comes with a lot of cosmetic changes thanks to the Material Design philosophy. While Motorola’s OS along with NVIDIA offers a simple stock experience, HTC and Samsung indeed have a lot to worry about thanks to their custom skins. Again we do have to keep in mind that NVIDIA has been working closely with Google ever since the announcement at Google I/O so it does make a bit of sense when they suddenly showed up with their Android Lollipop update.
