Google Search For Android Adds 'OK Google' Support Everywhere

Google Search now comes with a hotword detection update that will let you say “Ok Google” no matter which app you are in.

Google has now rolled out an update that brings a cool new feature that was present only in the Moto X until now. We are talking about hotword detection for the words “Ok Google” which many of us use to search (more so because Indian accents are now supported) for things instead of typing them out.

All you have to do to avail of the new feature is to update your Google Search to the latest version and have KitKat running on your Android smartphone. Next head to settings in Google Now and turn on the “Ok Google” detection option and you are good to go.

The hotword detection unlike before will work from any screen and any app. You may be playing a game and if you suddenly want to search for something; just say “Ok Google”. The voice search bar pops up out of nowhere and you then can continue with your search query. The feature will also work from your lock screen which is why those with security fears will have a tough time reading thorough that long list of permissions that the app will want to access.

The new update makes the app a lot easier and seems that even Microsoft is working with Cortana to make the same available.
