4.7 And 5.5 Inch iPhone 6 Dimensions Leak; 3.5mm Jack To Stay

Alleged images from Foxconn show clear cut comparisons between each other and the iPhone 5s.

While this year’s iPhone has indeed leaked in every way possible, we have not yet had our first glimpse of the actual iPhone 6. Apart from this it was only recently that we for the first time saw the actual parts of the 4.7 inch iPhone 5s being put together for a photo shoot. While most of the leaks have pointed to the 4.7 inch iPhone in the past, very few leaks have delivered details of the 5.5 inch model. Well finally, from what appears to be images straight off a computer from the Foxconn factory floor, we have a proper confirmation that the 5.5 inch iPhone actually exists.

The cosmetic comparison shows both the models of the iPhone 6 alongside the 5s and gives us a clearer understanding about how the new iPhones will scale. Do keep in mind, that these are indeed images and comparisons of the prototype devices, which as per the time on the system, shows the prototype specifications as of the 12th of February 2014.

From the images we can clearly see that there were indeed a number of prototypes of the 5.5 inch iPhone 6 tagged as the N56. The different units vary in size but hover around 158.0 x 77.12 x 7 mm and 168.5 grams. As for the 4.7 inch iPhone there are fewer prototypes in number but N61 measures in at 138.14 x 66.97 x 6.9 mm with an unknown weight; hinting the fact that things had not been decided upon back then.

One feature of the new design that is pretty much crystal clear, is that the camera unit will protrude out of the body by about 0.77mm. This is in the case of the both iPhone 6 models. Indeed this may end up being annoying for consumers with a phone that does not sit flat on a surface, and will end up rattling if you happen to type on it. Another tiny detail to note here, is that the Power button was indeed planned to be located on the top of the device, but with recent units seems to have been moved to the sides. Hopefully these are just prototypes and Apple’s final iPhones do not have the protruding camera.

Lastly, the source also mentions that earlier prototypes did include a 2.5mm jack for audio, but was later cancelled and replaced with the standard 3.5mm one as that would cause havoc for the accessory business. Earlier leaks had pointed out that the Cupertino giant would indeed be switching to the Lightning connector for audio output and input. But now it seems that there are indeed some things that Apple cannot change.

Apple’s quest to make the iPhone slimmer by the year have already led to a display issue and now it seems to be a bit impractical as well by design standards. Again we would like to note that the above images refer to designs from February 2014; indicating that there may have been plenty of revisions of the iPhone by now.
