Microsoft Reaches A Milestone; Sells 12 Million Nokia Lumia 520s

The Nokia built handset was one of the most important smartphones for the budding Windows Phone platform.

Microsoft announced at the Worldwide Partner Conference on Tuesday, that the budget Nokia Lumia 520 has registered over 12 million activations worldwide. It is no surprise when we hear such figures from Nokia’s range of budget handsets, but now that Microsoft is the boss it is a big achievement for Windows Phone.

The number of activation also includes the T-Mobile variant of the handset, but is a big number and a milestone for Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform. The budget-friendly handset was the best-seller in India and it was perfectly priced for those who wanted to try out the Windows Phone, if not move to that ecosystem altogether.

The Lumia 520 did have its fair share of problems, which is why Nokia later released a Lumia 525 version with 1 GB of RAM to replace the same. We are not sure whether the number of activations announced by Microsoft include the Lumia 525 as well.

Any ways the bullet-proof handset is rumoured to see a replacement, as Microsoft’s leaked product release roadmap has pointed out. The Lumia 530 is likely to be the successor, which will come with some bumped up specifications and will hopefully retain the same price tag and quality.
