Sony Xperia Z2 Raises The Bar For Mobile Photography

DxOMark Mobile score tops the previous champ, the Nokia 808 PureView.

DxoMark Mobile is known for its rankings and is often the trusted industry standard thanks to their rigorous hardware testing methods. So it is a given, when you hear that they tested the Xperia Z2 and gave it a thumbs up. But it was not just a thumbs up, since the Sony Xperia Z2 actually raised the bar for mobile photography; beating the previous champ, the Nokia 808 PureView. Sony must be really happy.

For long the Nokia PureView was the benchmark for mobile photography. The handset was manufactured when Nokia was going through tough times and the out-dated Symbian software certainly did not attract buyers worldwide. The Nokia 808 PureView did manage a cool 77 points which even the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the iPhone 5s could not defeat with 74 and 76 points respectively.

Sony did not do well with the Xperia Z1 when it launched last year due to its horrid display and noisy camera images. This time around with the Xperia Z2, they seemed to have worked on their defects and hit the sweet spot. DxOMark gave the Sony Xperia Z2 a record breaking 79 points which is much higher than the Nokia 808 PureView. The points were given because the Z2 impressed DxOMark testers with its colour and detail preservation, both outdoors and in more challenging lighting. They also commented that the Z2 retains the fast autofocus of the Z1 while improving its precision. Noise levels which plagued the Xperia Z1 are now well under control.

All-in-all a great score to go with opening sales of the Z2 which is still to go on sale in many countries.
