Nokia Asha 501 Up For Pre-Order; Priced At Rs 5200

The 3" compact phone is expected to start retailing next week.

Announced last month, the Nokia Asha 501 is now up for pre-order on the company’s official online store nokia.indiatimes.comAs anticipated, the latest Asha phone is pegged at Rs 5200. Although the website doesn't shed any light on its release date, our retail sources suggest that the phone will hit stores by next week.

The 501 is the first phone to run Nokia's Asha Software Platform. The new OS is built on a technology by the Oslo (Norway) based software-maker Smarterphone, which Nokia acquired last year. The UI supports swipe gestures, which is reminiscent of Meego-powered N9.  The platform seems to offer multitasking to certain extent. According to the Finnish giant, users will be able to download many third-party apps including Twitter, WeChat, WhatsApp, CNN, eBuddy, ESPN, Facebook, Foursquare, Line, LinkedIn, Nimbuzz, Pictelligent, and The Weather Channel. Developers such as Electronic Arts, Gameloft, Indiagames, Namco-Bandai, and Reliance are soon expected to bring its titles to this new OS.

Coming to its tech specs, the phone sports a 3” LCD screen with 240x320 pixels. Nokia hasn’t disclosed its processor or RAM details. For photography, there's a 3.2 megapixel camera. The phone supports dual-SIM (GSM) functionality. Other features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, microSD card slot, and 1200 mAh battery. The Asha 501 comes in in six colours: Red, Cyan, Green, White, Black, and Yellow. The green one though hasn't been listed in India yet.
