WWDC 2013: Apple Ports iWork To iCloud, Will Rival Google Drive

Beta version of Apple's iWork for iCloud is slated to be made public soon.

 

Apple kicked off the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in style by announcing iOS 7, along with refreshed line of MacBook Air models. It has also brought iWork to its iCloud package, in a beta version that is expected to be available for download soon. iWork for iCloud is Apple's response to the popular Google Drive cloud service.

iWork is an office application suite by Apple for its Mac OS.X and iOS platforms, which has now taken the cloud route. iWork is also available for iOS devices, including the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. The service will work with three major web browsers — the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Safari, however Apple says that the cloud service has been made keeping in mind Safari users.

Since iWork for iCloud implies "everything on the web", users needn't have to fret about editing documents. Apple also says that users will be able to use iWork for iCloud, along with Microsoft Office (MS Office) documents. The different MS Office file types supported here include, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. To use iWork for iCloud, users would have to drag their MS Office files to the Document Manager, and the files can be shared in the iWork, Office or PDF formats via iCloud Mail.

Apple further states that all changes made within its iCloud will reflect on the users' iOS devices, including the Macs. Users will find their work stored in the iCloud.com, which is still under testing. There are more features in the pipeline, which you can check out from the official iWork for iCloud page.
