Micromax Launches A85 Gesture Control Phone

Promises console-quality gaming on the move.

Micromax has added to its range of smartphones, the A85 Superfone, which will feature gesture control. We had earlier reported about this Android phone a couple of months ago. Powered by a 1 GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, the company claims that it can offer console-quality gaming, in additional to good multitasking and web experience.

The Superfone A85 sports a 3.8" capacitive touch screen with pixel dimensions of 480x800, fitted with Gorilla glass for better durability and protection against scratches. The phone comes with a 5.0 MP rear camera with 7.2x zoom and a 0.3 MP front camera, both with autofocus. The rear camera is capable of 720p while the front can record in VGA mode. It can understand and respond to hand gestures, allowing users to answer \ reject, scroll contacts, open Gallery, Music player, Calendar, and E-mail. Additionally, it also claims to feature voice commands to do what can be done using gestures, though we are not sure if it is something similar to Siri.

Android 2.2 (Froyo) is the OS on the phone, while it can be upgraded to Gingerbread. Being an Android phone, it has access to the Android Market to upgrade its functionality via the multitude of apps. Micromax provides several pre-installed apps including Netqin Antivirus, Netqin Mobile Guard, and Polaris Office 3.0 to read and edit various document formats. With GPS navigation, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, and HSUPA functionality, this phone also has an inbuilt accelerometer and gravity sensor, which has good applications in gaming. The A85 comes with an internal memory of 8 GB, which can be expanded up to 32 GB via microSD card.
