Symbian Carla And Donna Shown Off By Nokia

Nokia unofficially showed off upcoming Symbian updates at an event held in Mexico.

Nokia has been quite busy of late with the announcement of the Lumia range of handsets taking place around the globe. The Lumia 800 and 710 was announced in India a couple of days ago with much hype and enthusiasm. Similarly, the company has been quick in launching Symbian smartphones in the background as well (we can't say the same about MeeGo handsets, though).  Sadly, people aren't that excited about Symbian as they used to be before. However, Nokia surely wants to get back into the game and make an impact. Well, it seems like after Symbian Anna and Belle, Nokia has planned a couple of other updates for the platform. Going in the alphabetical order, the Symbian Carla and Donna updates will follow Belle. This goes to show that Symbian is far from being dead, at least from Nokia's perspective.

These new updates were revealed at Nokia's Developer's Day conference held in Mexico. The info comes from a blurred image which reveals the names of the two new updates. The Carla will be the first to make way to the market (to Anna running smartphones as well) with a bunch of neat features bundled with it. The update will see the new and improved 8.0 version of the browser, better widgets, improved NFC support and Dolby Surround Sound. The update is believed to roll out starting from early 2012.

Details on the Donna update are still a bit sketchy. From what we have been able to learn so far, Symbian could finally get support for dual core chipsets with Donna. According to reports, the rumored successor to the Nokia N9 will come with Symbian Donna. Nothing is confirmed as of yet, so we recommend you to take this particular rumor with a pinch of salt. That being said, the Carla and Donna updates are pretty much on the cards since the info is coming straight from a Nokia event. There is no word yet on when Symbian Donna will make way to the market.
