Rumour: Nokia Vertu Windows Phone Seen Running WP8

News comes amidst reports of the Finnish manufacturer selling off the luxury brand.

Nokia has sold off its luxury smartphone wing, Vertu. Amidst those reports, we have come across something rather interesting. With the Windows Phone 8 OS scheduled to be demoed on June 20th, rumours have begun surfacing. To further fuel speculations, we have come across a leak of what is believed to be a new smartphone running Windows Phone 8.

What's interesting though, is that the leak claims to be that of a Vertu Windows Phone, which is really.unheard of. The leak is sourced out of a Chinese forum, WPXAP, which also mentions that current WP smartphones will be upgraded to WP8, although apparently the "functions will be reduced".

The leaked images show the total storage of the device to be 54.72 GB (64 GB in total), which comes as a surprise. Maybe future Windows Phones will merge the internal storage space with the SkyDrive, which should partially explain the massive storage. Further, the device is believed to have improved SkyDrive integration, as the pictures reveal. Sadly though, the pictures talk more about the Windows Phone 8 OS than about the phone itself, with no clear indication of what device is housing the OS. There are a couple of snaps, which show the typical Vertu design, but there's no way to make sure if this is the real deal. The images show the device to be running on Windows Phone 8.0 but the OS version has been marked out.

Microsoft is holding an event on 20th June, so won't jump to conclusions just yet. That being said, I am sceptical about the prospects of a luxury Windows Phone device. The source mentions that the images are almost three weeks old, and are very likely to be of a test unit, so fingers crossed.
