All You Need To Know About The ASUS Zenfone 2 Launch In India

Pricing, launch dates and configurations, its all here.

ASUS today has launched in India what is one of the best-looking and high-specd mid-range smartphone to reach Indian shores, called the Zenfone 2.

The smartphone that comes in two variants and was announced at CES earlier this year thanks to its quality construction, mid-range price tag, along with those impressive specifications is bound to be a hot-seller indeed.

What is impressive is the construction quality that is will easily convince you that this handset falls in the high-end category (if not the premium segment). The back cover can be removed, but the battery is not user replaceable; it just provides access to the memory card and the dual SIM slots. Additionally, the back cover can also be replaced with a variety of cool-looking textured covers.

Controls trickle down from the top centre of the handset with the power button and slide down the back with the LED flash, camera module and the volume control rockers.

The ASUS Zenfone 2 will be available in the two models with differences in prices and specifications. The Zenfone 2 ZE551ML is the superior when it comes to the specs when compared to the budget ZE550ML variant (more on that later).

As for the hardware inside the ASUS Zenfone 2 ZE551ML model, we get:

  • We get a 5.5 IPS 1080p display with a pixel density of 403 ppi and a layer of Gorilla Glass 3 on top
  • Inside, we get a 2.3GHz / 1.8 Ghz Intel Atom Z3580 64-bit chipset with 4 GB / 2 GB of RAM
  • The camera department consists of a 13 MP PixelMaster camera and a True Tone LED flash; while a 5 MP snapper takes care of selfies up front
  • Connectivity options include the usual Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, NFC and dual micro SIM with dual standby for 4G/LTE Cat 4
  • The Zenfone 2 includes a 3,000 mAh battery with BoostMaster fast charging tech that will get you up and running from empty to 60% in 39 minutes

  • We get a 5.5 IPS 720p display with a pixel density of 271 ppi and a layer of Gorilla Glass 3 on top
  • Inside, we get a 1.8 GHz Intel Atom Z3560 64-bit chipset and 2 GB of RAM
  • The camera department consists of a 13 MP PixelMaster camera and a True Tone LED flash; while a 5 MP snapper takes care of selfies up front
  • Connectivity options include the usual Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and dual micro SIM with dual standby for 4G/LTE Cat 4
  • The Zenfone 2 ZE550ML includes a 3,000 mAh battery to power all of the above

Keeping the exemplary hardware in mind, the new Zen UI (with Android 5.0 Lollipop) user interface keeps things running smoothly even though it seems heavily skinned.

The UX now supports themes, icons and even font changes and ASUS seems to have taken the HTC and Motorola path by making essential apps upgradeable quickly, thanks to the Instant Updates feature. Security has also seen a bump up as you can now not only lock and secure apps but also folders and individual files on the smartphone as well.
