Microsoft India: Windows Phone 8.1 To Hit Handsets By Mid-July

The company has finally teased us with some information about the much-awaited Windows Phone 8.1 update.

Windows Phone 8.1 update is coming and it will be arriving soon, says Microsoft India via its Twitter handle. The company even gave a probable time frame stating that the update will be hitting handsets in India in the first two weeks of July.

The news came as a response to consumers who have been dying to know whether their handsets will be upgraded to the latest version of Windows Phone or not. Still then, there is no clear idea about when each handset will get upgraded to the same.

The update brings a lot new additions to the budding mobile operating system that is still struggling to build its arsenal of apps. While some of the path-breaking features like Microsoft’s voice assistant ‘Cortana’ will not be available for now, there are still a plethora of new features and goodies in the form of background wallpapers and an Action Center (similar to Android’s notification bar) which will be available and will make the UI a lot easier to use. The Action Center was indeed one of the most requested features from users who have asking for it since the OS launched.

All thanks to Nokia (now owned by Microsoft), its countries like India and China that now form the biggest markets for Windows Phone after the US. Still, Microsoft is having a tough time trying to add value to its handsets in a market that dominated by Android. It was just recently that local brands like Micromax and now XOLO have introduced Windows Phone-powered handsets in India.
