Amazon Puts a Dedicated 'Mayday' Button on Kindle Fire HDX Tablets

Tech-support can also troubleshoot the tablet by controlling it remotely.

Amazon has made no bones about its intention to compete with Apple with its Kindle branded tablets. However, Amazon has a lot of ground to cover before it can match sales of the bestseller iPad. That said, it has decided to take on Apple's Genius Bar but in the virtual space. CNET News reports that the recent Kindle Fire HDX tablets will sport a "Mayday" button that will lead users to the Quick Settings menu that will connect you to a customer service representative through video feeds.

The service will be available 24/7 with Amazon promising that its reps will respond within 15 seconds. This feature may not be available in India, but even if it's eventually introduced here, 15 seconds is just too unrealistic an expectation from local tech-support guys. In fact, the report also adds that this feature also lets the tech support guy "take control of your device's screen and draw on it to guide customers through troubleshooting situations". This works well for those who are technologically-challenged.

In other Kindle-related news, Amazon India has slashed prices for its 7" HD tablet. The 16 GB version can be yours for Rs 12,000 and the 32 GB one is now worth Rs 15,000.
