Acer Joins Low-Cost Android 4.2 Smartphones Race With Liquid Z3

This smartphone is expected to be priced around Rs 5,000.

The latest smartphone in Acer's Liquid series, called the Acer Liquid Z3 has been launched, and the smartphone features Android 4.2 out of the box. It is slated to be available both in single-SIM as well as dual-SIM versions. The Z3 follows the likes of its predecessor in the Liquid range of smartphones such as the Liquid E1, S1, E2 and the Z2 devices.

Acer's Liquid Z3 looks like an entry-level device, and is slated to release in mid-August this year. Its key technical specifications are:

  • 3.5" HVGA display
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system
  • 1GHz dual-core processor
  • Dual-SIM support
  • 3 MP rear camera, no front snapper
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 4 GB internal storage
  • MicroSD card slot for expansion up to 32 GB
  • 3G, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth and microUSB connectivity
  • 1500 mAh battery of unknown backup time

The pricing of Acer Liquid Z3 is unknown as of now, but is expected to be around Rs 5,000, considering its low-end technical specifications (save for its OS). Of late, there has been a slew of low-cost smartphones (from brands like Videocon and Intex) that run on Android 4.2 platform, but most of these smartphones offer only 256MB RAM which makes these devices stutter when it comes to performance. Acer's new phone will compete with devices such as the Intex Cloud X3, and the Videocon A24, that come with similar tech-specs. However, Acer Liquid Z3 betters these devices in terms of RAM.

As it is a known fact that smartphones need at least 1 GB of RAM for Jelly Bean to work smoothly, prospective buyers could very well invest another Rs 2,000- Rs 2,500 on a better all-round smartphone. Buyers could also refer to our Guide of Smartphones priced below Rs 6,000 in India.
