Intel launched the mobile edition of the Haswell processors at Computex 2013, and the new MacBook Air is one of the first devices to be sporting the new processor. Now, some leaked slides by VR-Zone give details on the desktop edition of Haswell-E series, with a launch timeframe set in the second half of 2014. The Haswell-E series refers to Intel's enthusiast series of processors.

Apart from the octa-core CPUs, the Haswell-E series will also feature hexa-core processors. These processors will be available with up to 20 MB of L3 cache, with a maximum TDP ranging between 130 W and 140 W.

The New Wellsburg-X series of chipset will also be introduced along with the Haswell CPUs. One of the most important new features of the new chipset, is its support for DDR4 RAM. The new RAM will pack in a maximum clock speed of 2133 MHz that can be overclocked further. Connectivity options will include up to 6 USB 3.0 ports and 10 SATA 6 Gbps ports. Along with the new chipset, the socket for Haswell (LGA 2011-3) has also received a minor revamp for efficiency.

The Haswell-E line-up of CPUs has been pitted against the Steamroller from AMD. The present Ivy Bridge-E processors have been minor performance and specification improvement over the Sandy Bridge-E series. But the new Haswell-E seems to be a major stepping stone for both Intel and enthusiast users.
