Google Wants YouTube App Out Of Windows Phone Store

The native YouTube app created by Microsoft, is said to violate the YouTube API's conditions.

 

Just a few days ago, Microsoft had updated YouTube to a native app on Windows Phone 8 to allow favourite videos, playlists and channels on Live Tiles for faster access. But now Google has demanded that Microsoft take down this YouTube app from the Windows Store. According to a copy of the letter that Google sent to Microsoft to implement the YouTube app cease order, Microsoft would have to take down Google's YouTube app and also bar downloads of the app by May 22.

Google cites ads not playing in Microsoft's new YouTube app, as a reason in its letter. Said reason does cause them a flutter, since it is known that Google's revenue stream depends on ads by marketers throughout the world who use Google's AdSense to promote their products/services. Google may have felt the heat with respect to ads being blocked in Microsoft's YouTube app, as it pays out third-parties who earn revenue via Google's AdSense feature.

Also, Google states that the YouTube app created by Microsoft was without consent, which would place Microsoft in violation of the YouTube API's terms and conditions.

Incidentally, the two heavyweights had recently co-operated for Microsoft to integrate the Google Talk (Instant Messenger chat client) into Outlook.com. There have been instances of mud-slinging between the two, such as Microsoft's "Scroogled" campaign.
