Simmtronics Launches 8" XPAD X-801 For Rs 8500

ICS-based offers 1.2 GHz CPU, and phone functionality.

The entry-level tablet segment continues to get crowded, with Simmtronics adding an 8" tablet to its portfolio. The latest entrant, called the XPAD X-801, comes with a SIM slot and offers 2G data and voice calling functionality. Those wanting to use 3G, will have to make use of external dongles. The 8" screen is a run-of-the-mill LCD panel with 800x600 pixels. The tablet is powered by a 1.2 Ghz Cortex A8 processor, and has 512 MB of RAM. Apart from that, it packs in a 2 mp rear camera and a front VGA camera. On the software front, the device runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The complete list of features is as below:

  • 8" capacitive multi touch screen with 800x600 pixels.
  • Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 CPU, 512 MB of RAM.
  • 8 GB internal storage, Expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card slot.
  • 2 megapixel rear camera, 0.3 megapixel (VGA) front camera.
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Lacks HDMI port.
  • Supports voice calling and 2G data.
  • Compatible with external 3G dongles.
  • 4000 mAh Li-Polymer Battery.

The Simmtronics XPAD X-801 is available online for Rs 8500. While it's still inexpensive, Karbonn's Smart Tab 8 Velox seems like a better deal to me. Not only is it 1.5 grand cheaper, but also offers latest Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) out of the box.
