Intex Launches AURA Dual-SIM GSM Phone For Rs 1700

Entry-level handset with a 2.4" screen and 1.3 mp camera boasts of "long talk time"; offers Hindi language support.

Intex Technologies has launched the AURA, an entry-level feature phone. This dual-SIM GSM standby handset comes with a 2.4" screen having pixel dimensions of 240x320. As with most "dumbphones", we'd assume it would have barely any internal storage. A press release mentions support for up to 16 GB via microSD card, but none comes bundled with the handset. The device is lightweight and sleek, though. It features a 1.3 mp rear snapper, and it's powered by an 1800 mAh battery that claims 5 hours of talk time and 15 days of standby time. For this battery capacity, we think it should offer longer talk time, considering that it's not a power-hungry smartphone with a large screen. Here are the product specifications:

  • Dual-SIM (GSM + GSM) Standby; 900 / 1800 MHz.
  • 2.4" TFT display with pixel dimensions of 240x320.
  • Up to 16 GB microSD card support.
  • 1.3 megapixel camera.
  • Audio and video player, Sound recorder, FM radio and recorder.
  • Mobile Tracker.
  • WAP, GPRS, Bluetooth A2DP.
  • Preloaded games.
  • Supported languages: English, Hindi.
  • 1800 mAh Li-ion battery with up to 5 hours talk time and 15 days standby time.
  • 4.6" (l) x 1.9" (w) x 0.57" (14.4 mm) (d), 100 grams.
  • Available colours: Red, White, Black.
  • Package contents: Handset, Charger, Headset, USB cable.

Although the AURA doesn't have EDGE, you should be able to check your emails and do basic browsing using GPRS and WAP. The T9 keyboard should serve heavy SMS users well. Mobile Tracker increases the chances of recovering the device in case of loss or theft.

It is clear from the specifications that the AURA is intended as a good backup phone for people who use a smartphone as their primary device. This compact phone — with Hindi and English language support — seems a decent buy at Rs 1700. We'd have liked to see a longer battery backup, though.
