Micromax Launches Superfone Infinity A80 With Dual-SIM And Android 2.3 For Rs 8500

Gingerbread handset sports 3.75" screen, dual cameras, A.I.S.H.A. voice recognition software, and large 2500 mAh battery.

Micromax seems to keep rolling out new phones from its design labs at breakneck pace. Having launched the Superfone Ninja2 A56 just last week. it has now ushered in the newest member of its Superfone family: the Infinity A80, with Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread). The USP of this smartphone is its huge 2500 mAh Li-ion battery, which provides a claimed talk time of 7 hours and standby time of up to 288 hours.

Just like the A75 (its first "Superfone"), the A80 comes with a 3.75" capacitive, multi-touch display. It's powered by an 800 MHz CPU, with 512 256 MB of RAM. A 5 mp rear camera with LED flash takes care of shooting photos and videos, while a 0.3 mp front camera has been provided for communication. The phone has dimensions of 5.1" (l) x 2.5" (w) x 0.5" (13.5 mm) (d).

Like others in the series, the handset features A.I.S.H.A (Artificial Intelligence Speech Handset Assistant), which is akin to Apple’s Siri. You can use it to send messages, make calls, update your social network status, or even perform web searches, just by using your voice.

Some of the other features include 3G support, GPS, accelerometer, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, and expandable storage up to 32 GB via microSD — the specs sheet makes no mention of the internal storage though. The device comes preloaded with several apps such as MiBuddy, Mstore, and WhatsApp. Of course, you can download more apps and games from the Google Play store. Since this is a dual-band phone that works only on GSM 900 and 1800 MHz, you might want to check beforehand if it will work abroad, unlike quad-band phones.

Overall, despite the impressive-sounding "infinity" tag, there is nothing special about the A80 apart from the powerful battery. I doubt if it that will be good enough to keep it from getting lost in the crowd of its siblings. The current MRP of this phone is Rs 8500, available at all leading retail outlets across India.
