What To Expect From The Upcoming iPhone 6

Apple's next flagship phone will be bigger and faster than its predecessor.

What To Expect From The Upcoming iPhone 6

The next iPhone launch is on the horizon. The upcoming iPhone, likely to be called the iPhone 6, will go official on September 9. Last year, Apple unveiled not one, but two handsets — iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. The latter was an iPhone 5 replacement with a plastic body. This time around, many believe that Apple will launch iPhones in two different screen sizes. One meant for single-handed usage, and another meant for the "phablet" fans. Although there are many Chinese sources to back it up, I still can't imagine Apple doing something as stupid as launching a 5.5-inch phone. At this point, nothing is certain. However, I think the large screen device that everybody is talking about, will turn out to be a new iPod. Now, back to iPhone, here's what to expect from the upcoming Apple smartphone:

4.7-inch Screen
The first iPhone had a 3.5-inch screen. While the company improved the iPhone in every iteration, the screen size remained the same. Finally, Apple introduced its first 4-inch handset, the iPhone 5. At this rate, we can expect the iPhone 6 to sport a 4.7" display. Considering that Apple believes in ergonomics and usability, that's the maximum screen size for comfortable usage. Many of our readers would already know that Apple uses sapphire glass to protect the iPhone 5s' fingerprint scanner. There's now a good chance that he Cupertino-based company will use this glass for the entire display. Use of the sapphire glass will drastically increase the phone's price tag. Hence, we expect the sapphire glass iPhone 6 to be limited for a few markets.

A Curvy Design
The first iPhone had a plastic body with rounded corners. Then, there was a drastic change in design when Apple's Senior Vice President of Design, Johny Ive, built the metallic iPhone 4 with a flat back and sharp edges. Now, the rumour has it that Apple will revisit the curvy design with the iPhone 6. It will be mostly constructed using the top-notch aluminium. The phone will be slimmer the than its predecessor. To accommodate the relatively larger screen, Apple will shrink the bezels. Of course, the phone will put on some weight due to its bigger size. A few websites have reported that the phone might have a glowing Apple logo on its back (just like the MacBooks).

iOS 8 Out-Of-The-Box
Apple's next big OS update, iOS 8 will most likely go live with the launch of the iPhone 6. The OS was first showcased at WWDC 2014. The software will bring in aesthetics and functionality enhancements such as widgets in the Notification Center. The company is also betting big on health and fitness apps. The promising Homekit app will give total control over your home automation systems. The keyboard has also gone through a lot of improvements. Apple claims that the new text prediction system QuickType will understand your usage pattern to give relevant suggestions. Apple has opened up the keyboard API, so you can now expect popular keyboard tools such as SWYPE to land on iOS.

8MP camera With OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation)
Instead of numbers, Apple believes in delivering quality. That's the reason why the iPhone 5s' 8 megapixel snapper is better than 13 megapixel snappers found on most Android smartphones. Therefore, apple is likely to continue with a 8 megapixel camera sensor for the iPhone 6. However, it will improve the low-light photography performance by adding the Optical Image Stabilisation to the lens assembly. This shouldn't come as a surprise as Apple has already scooped Nokia's PureView camera expert Ari Partinen a few months ago. The other rumour about the camera is quite imaginative. Apple has filed a patent for interchangeable smartphone camera lenses. Many techies believe that the iPhone 6 will have hardware camera add-ons much like the DSLRs. However, I don't think it's feasible right now.

Processor And RAM
The current flagship iPhone 5s runs a 64-bit Apple A7 chipset, which is manufactured by Samsung. I know that I'm being Captain Obvious here, but yes the iPhone 6 will be powered by the A8 SoC (System-on-Chip). Sources from the MacRumours.com suggest that these new processors will be smaller and efficient than the existing ones. Despite multiple rumours of a quad-core chip, Apple will stick with the dual-core die. According to GSMArena.com, each core will be clocked at at least 2.0 GHz. There will be a successor of M7 coprocessor too. Considering the phone has no issues handling multitasking and high-end games, Apple will keep the RAM capacity to 1 GB.
