Microsoft Announces The Lumia 532; An Entry-Level Handset For The Masses

The focus here is on the quad-core processor and a better camera experience.

While we do know that Microsoft’s focus is on the lower end of the market, the company did not have to launch two identical smartphones at similar price points to prove the same. After launching the Lumia 435 in India last week, Microsoft has today announced the Lumia 532 device that is slightly higher up the chain, but certainly does not come close to the Android herd.

Yes, Microsoft seems to be announcing smartphones like never before these days.  The Lumia 532 is certainly proof of that because the only difference between it and the Dual SIM Lumia 435 is a faster processor and 5 MP camera that still sports a Fixed Focus system.

In short Microsoft is not giving users anything new but just looking at a completely different bunch of users altogether.

As for the Dual SIM Lumia 532, the design is pretty much identical to the Lumia 435 with the addition of that shiny plastic finish to the borders of the device.

In terms of hardware:

  • We get the same 4 inch 800 x 480 (WVGA) pixel LCD display with a pixel density of 233ppi
  • Inside, we get a 1.2 GHz, quad-core, Qualcomm-made Snapdragon 200 processor with 1 GB of RAM
  • Internal memory is limited to 8 GB with expandable memory options going all the way up to 128 GB
  • The camera department consists of a fixed-focus 5 MP primary unit coupled with the same VGA front-facing sensor as on the 435
  • We get the usual radios including 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0, all powered by a 1560 mAh battery, that delivers a bit more talktime thanks to the quad-core set up

The Dual SIM Lumia 532 will be available in bright green, bright orange, white and black and will be priced Rs 6499. As of now the smartphone has yet to go on sale online.
