Android Silver Will Not Kill Nexus Range Says Google Exec

The search giant is not shutting its Nexus program for Silver, but will run both side-by-side.

The Nexus line up will live on, says a Google Exec in a recent report from Readwrite. With Google’s Silver Programme all set to launch at the start of next year, most of us suspected that the Google would ditch the Nexus range completely, looking to deliver a more premium Apple-like experience.

But that is clearly not the case now that Dave Burke (Head of Android Engineering and the Nexus program) himself confirmed the same in a recent interview: "People just get excited by concepts and forget why we do things. We are still invested in Nexus.Android Silver is not something that we are commenting on right now. People have been commenting about Nexus because there is something else and they think that means the end of Nexus. That is the totally wrong conclusion to make."

Clearly goes to show that the Nexus line up is not dead. Its just that it may in all probability be built by someone other than LG. Google will definitely be releasing a new phone (a new range) but that is something that always happens with the release of every new version of Android. Android L so far rumoured to run on a 64-bit processor which should show up in both the Nexus and Silver range early next year.
