Oppo Find 7a Gets A Firmware Update; Adds Voiceprint Unlock

Firmware update bumps up the ColorOS version from v1.2.0i to v1.2.1i and adds Voiceprint Unlock as well.

Oppo has begun rolling out an update for its Find 7a flagship smartphone. The update bumps up the ColorOS version to v1.2.1i and adds the all-new voiceprint password unlock feature, which Oppo claims is ‘unbreakable’.

The update is about 290MB in size and fixes a number of bugs in the ColorOS skinned Android Jelly firmware which is now said to have added stability with the new update. Yes there is no sign of KitKat from the Chinese smartphone manufacturer just yet.

The most important and only new feature in the new update is the voiceprint password unlock. The software will prompt you to record your voice 5 times in order to extract what Oppo calls a ‘unique voiceprint’ which is supposedly as unique as your fingerprint.

Obviously you could play back the recorded audio of your voice to crack the password functionality; still then we will have to test the software until we can find that out for sure.

Apart from this, the update adds support for smart covers and even delivers optimised power consumption. Also included in the update is support for .ogg files.

While Oppo has announced its Find 7 and Find 7a in India along with their price tags, we still have to learn of a confirmed date for the launch of these handsets. So far internationally, Oppo has only managed to roll out the Find 7a (Full HD variant) while there is no sign of the Find 7 (Quad HD one) just yet.
