Get The Official File-Manager On Your Windows Phone 8.1 Device

The app lets you manage and share files on-the-go.

One of the things most Android users hate about the iOS and Windows Phone is the lack of a proper file-manager. While Apple is unlikely to add such feature in its mobile OS, Microsoft has finally decided to give users what they have been asking for. Yes, the first official file-manager has finally hit the Windows Phone Store.

Last month, Joe Belfiore, Head of Windows Phone, had promised to release a file manager during Reddit’s AMA (Ask Me Anything) session. For a change, Microsoft actually delivered the app on time. Dubbed files, the app allows you to access files stored on your phone as well the memory card. Using this app, you can browse through files and folders or simply search for the desired one. You can create new folders and arrange your files across those folders using move and copy functions.  You can share one or multiple files with your friends by email, OneDrive, and even the good old Bluetooth.

The app is currently supported Windows Phone 8.1 devices such as the Lumia 630 and 930. Those running Windows Phone 8.1 Preview will also be able to down load this app. Other will have to wait for till the last week of this month, when Microsoft is expected to rollout the official WP 8.1 update. In case if you didn’t know, all the WP 8 handsets including the budget Lumia 520, 525, and 620 are eligible for the software update.

Looking at recent developments, Microsoft seems to be taking feedback seriously. So if you think you’re missing something on WP platform, make yourself heard at WindowsPhone.uservoice.com.
