Low RAM Handsets Rule The Windows Phone Marketplace

Other eye-openers included, read on to find out!

Clearly, Microsoft Windows and Windows Phone Store trends reports have a lot to show. The report gets generated every quarter and is aimed at developers so that they can make use of what users download and what they like. There is indeed a host of fun-facts here, so let’s begin.

In the Windows Phone Store, games consist of the majority of the app downloads in the market. That is a staggering 35% compared with Tools and Productivity apps coming in second place. This is rather strange since most people who want to switch often complain about the lack of games. Apparently those who have, download more games than anything else from the store.

The US comes first when it comes to the number of apps downloaded by market (12% in fact) and surprisingly India, stands at number three at 9% with China beating us by 10%. Goes to show that after the US, developers and Microsoft are pretty much interested in the Indian market right now. After this report we hope that they hurry up with Lumia 930 launch soon!

Lastly one of the big observations is that were brought to light thanks to the reports were the devices. In February this year, 66% of all Windows Phone app downloads were generated from low memory devices. This would be 256MB RAM devices for Windows Phone 7 and 512MB RAM running devices for Windows Phone 8. Microsoft even recommended developers in the report to push at optimising their apps for 512MB devices if they want to be a part of the majority. So it’s no wonder that the company launched the stunning Lumia 630 with just 512MB of RAM.

There are a lot more parameters covered in the report, which we suggest you have a look at even if you are not a developer. May be that will convince you to switch to Lumia and forget about the 512MB RAM in the Lumia 630 which many find too little.
