Samsung ATIV SE Sneaks Up On Verizon’s Shelves

Will be the third Windows Phone this year to sport a Snapdragon 800 processor.

Looks like Samsung really does not want to make a big deal about its Windows Phones after all. So much so that it’s latest incarnation, the much rumoured ‘Huron’ or the Samsung ATIV SE quietly showed up on Verizon’s website.

There was no announcement, no launch not even a mention of the device on Samsung’s US website (well, at least as of now). So far Verizon has a page for the newly announced device which is now up for pre-order. The device will be shipped by the 12th of April which is just a day after the GALAXY S5 goes on sale.

The device looks exactly like the leaked images we reported in the past, so what remains of those leaks are the hardware specifications. Just like the new flagships that have been announced this year, the Samsung ATIV SE will also sport a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on board memory. The memory unlike Nokia’s flagships (the Icon and the Lumia 930) will be expandable and will support up to 64GB of memory via micro SD cards. The display is a stunning 5 inch (1920 x 1080 pixel) Full HD AMOLED screen with a protective layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. Powering all of this is a large 2600 mAh battery which along with the AMOLED screen should deliver up to 20 hours of talk time.

We all thought that Microsoft would announce the ATIV SE at the BUILD 2014 conference, but it seems that both Samsung and Verizon had other plans. The device will be sold with the current iteration of Windows Phone (8) and will include some Samsung specific apps on board as well. One of those interesting apps is definitely is ATIV Beam, which allows you to beam files using NFC to Android devices.

In terms of pricing, Verizon has actually offered a buy one get one free deal with the Samsung ATIV SE. In the US, you can purchase a Samsung ATIV SE for $199.99 on contract and pick up a Samsung GALAXY S5, HTC One (M8) or even another ATIV SE for free (no upfront charges). Off contract, the Samsung ATIV SE is available for $599.99 (approx. Rs 36,071).

As one can see, the Samsung ATIV SE is no slouch when it comes to specs. But Samsung’s current focus seems to be Android which why we don’t think that Samsung will build a global version of the handset.
