Pantech To Launch The First Snapdragon 805-Powered Smartphone

Intended for the Korean market, the handset packs in 5.5 inch Full HD display and 2 GB of RAM.

We are sure you have heard of Pantech, makers of smartphones during the Symbian era. Sticking mainly to network-locked handsets in the US and Korean markets, the company somehow didn't meet with much of the success. Now after a long time, it seems the company is finally ready to compete with the big boys.

The rumoured Vega Iron 2 may look like your typical LTE device, but this is in fact one of the first devices rumoured to pack the next generation Snapdragon 805 SoC. So far consumers worldwide have been eager to know what’s in store for them in the next wave of Qualcomm powered devices. So yes, if the Chinese website Techorz.com is to be believed, it seems that Pantech will be leading the way for now.

The smartphone will sport a 5.5 inch Full HD display with the Snapdragon 805 SoC at its heart. Also embedded would be 2 GB of RAM and 32/64 GB of memory. USB 3.0 would be standard and all of this would be fuelled by a 2800 mAh battery.

The low screen specs could actually work in favour of this handset since the 805 has been designed keeping 4k graphics in mind. We are talking 4 Krait 450 CPUs running at up to 2.5 GHz per core here with Adreno 420 GPU handling the graphics; which is some serious processing power.

So far none of the handset makers have announced anything new since the MWC in Barcelona. Seems like the 805 will be ready only for the next wave of devices which sport the QHD displays that we expected at the MWC but somehow no one was ready with.
