Samsung Distances Itself From Apple’s A8 Chipset Production

Points at low-yield as a reason to let go of Apple as a client.

 

It’s been a war in the court-room for the past couple of years between Samsung and Apple, but when it comes to manufacturing, they were always good buddies. But, now it seems that these two companies will soon part their ways.

TechNews from Taiwan reports that Samsung will not be a part of Apple’s A8 chipset production plans as the Korean company feels that their 20 nm technology is not generating enough yields for them. We are guessing, that Samsung will need all its manufacturing strength when it comes to the upcoming GALAXY S5, which is going to be a massive upgrade (if the rumours are correct).

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited) seems to have taken off where Samsung left. From what it seems, TSMC has more than what it takes to keep up with Apple’s overwhelming manufacturing cycles. That said, this news does not mean that Samsung would not produce future SoCs for Apple (or whatever it is called). Samsung may pick up where they left off in the next cycle. For now, it makes sense to have an Samsung vs Apple argument after all.
