As corny (or intoxicating, as the case may be) as this one sounds, this interesting Android app promises to offer you "Crisp news in 60 words" (bitten by the Twitter bug, I presume).The app also claims to pool data from several resources, which have been listed on its Google Play app page.  You can save the news piece for reading offline as well.

The app suggests that it is ideal for those trying their luck at competitive exams such as UPSC, IAS, Banking, and MBA entrance tests. It is also good for those on slow internet connections, and don’t want to buy newspapers every day. The app also gives you access to news that is a couple of days old, so you will be kept abreast with all the current affairs of the country.
