Nokia To Stop Updating Apps For MeeGo, Symbian OS By 2014

Developers informed via email; no new apps will appear on the Nokia Store after 1st January 2014.

 

Fans of Nokia's dated (and now dead OS) Symbian will soon stop getting new apps, or updates for any of the existing apps. Nokia's developer support team has reportedly sent out emails to app makers that applications for the defunct ecosystems via the Ovi (Nokia) Store will stop from 1st January 2014.

The email states: "If you have Symbian and MeeGo content in the Nokia Store, it will continue to be available for download to customers, and you will continue to receive download and revenue reports as well as payouts for downloaded content. However, starting January 1, 2014, you will no longer be able to publish any new content or update existing content for Symbian and MeeGo".

So it's time for the N9 and 808 PureView users to switch loyalties for a smarter OS (and brands too, if the Windows Phone 8 platform doesn’t suite you). That said, you can at least use the 808 as a point and shoot replacement even after the dead line!
