LG Introduces World's First 5.5" Smartphone Display Panel With 538 ppi

Dubbed as the Quad HD, the 1.2 mm thick display offers brightness levels up to 430 nits.

LG has unveiled a 5.5" display panel, which the company claims is the world's slimmest and the narrowest LCD panel ever. At 1.21 mm thickness, this 5.5" panel packs in 1440x2560 pixels @ 538 ppi. LG says that this "Quad HD" panel has the highest display resolution ever in a mobile display panel. The South Korean electronics major had very recently unveiled a 5.2" smartphone display that is just 2.2 mm thick, which has been used in the LG G2 smartphone

The panel is expect to bring the Blu-ray quality videos to smartphones, and PC-like rendering of web pages. Even the text on the display is expected to be sharper than full HD smartphone displays.

The quad HD provides a brightness level of up to 430 nits, thanks to the AH-IPS technology and Low Temperature Poly-Silicon substrate. We feel that even full HD resolution on a 5.5" or 6" screen is overkill, as you can hardly tell the difference at that screen size. So other than flaunt value for LG, it will only put more pressure on the device's battery and CPU.
