LG Hints At Slimmer Smartphones With Its New 2.2 mm Thick Display

Optimus G2 is speculated to be one of the slimmest smartphones till date.

LG, which originally planned to bring out flexible smartphone display later in the year, seems to have diverted from that plan for now. The South Korean company has now showcased a new smartphone display panel that is only 2.2 mm thick, and measures 5.2" diagonally. LG says that it has used a latest technology trend, termed "Advanced One Glass solution" to create this ultra-thin display.

This is said to be the latest innovation in touch screen design, using which Dual Flexible Printed Circuits are sandwiched between the panel and the touch film, eliminating the need of 30 separate layers, squeezing everything into a single lining. LG also claims that each pixel in the new display is made up of various RGB subpixels that support a pixel density of 1080x1920 with brightness of up to 535 nits.

The ultra-thin display announcement by LG comes at a time when the company's new flagship, the Optimus G2 is rumoured to be launched anytime soon. So we can expect this handset, speculated 5.2" display to be the first to feature this technology? We'll find out soon.
