Lemon Launches A4 Smartphone With 5" Full HD Screen For Rs 18,000

Android Jelly Bean handset is powered by a quad-core CPU and comes with 16 GB internal storage.

Lemon has launched its new Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) smartphone in its Aspirational series, called the A4. The 8.5 mm thin handset has the distinction of being the first by an Indian company with a 5" Full HD touchscreen. Powered by a quad-core CPU, it comes with 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and support for up to 64 GB via microSDXC, if the internal storage is not enough. A 13 mp rear snapper with autofocus, LED flash, and OVI sensor is present, along with a front camera of unspecified specifications for video calling. Speaking of video calling, this dual-SIM 3G handset also supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless transmission protocols. Here are the product specifications:

  • Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), Google Play store support.
  • Dual-SIM, Dual standby.
  • 5" multi-touch capacitive IPS screen with 1080x1920.
  • 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, 1 GB RAM.
  • 16 GB internal storage, Up to 64 GB microSDXC support.
  • 13 megapixel rear camera with auto-focus, LED flash, and OVI sensor; front camera.
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0.
  • Sensors: Magnetic, Gyro, Proximity, Accelerometer, Light.
  • 1850 mAh battery.
  • 0.33" (8.5 mm) thickness.

Cramming in Full HD pixels inside a 5" diagonal screen size will surely result in a crisp display. Also, the IPS panel should give it wide viewing angles. With the powerful processor, good amount of RAM, and internal storage, the handset certainly seems to be a good option for those who like big screen handsets. However, the battery of 1850 mAh seems to be the weakest link here, as it may last for only a few hours before requiring a recharge. The handset can certainly capitalise on the lack of competition, since no handsets with Full HD screens are available in the sub-20k price segment. The Lemon A4 has been priced at an MRP of Rs 18,000, but should be available for less than Rs 16,000 at retail outlets.

We had a strong sense of deja vu when we saw the image of this phone, and it didn't take us long to figure out the reason for it. It's not just the UI, but also the wallpaper that is exactly the same as the one found on LG Optimus L9's press image. And if that wasn't enough, the date and time are exactly the same too. See for yourself.
