Gmail App For iOS Updated To v2.2.7182

New version allows for signing out from individual accounts, and opens links in respective Google apps.

 

Google has rolled out an update to its native Gmail app for iOS. The new app (version: 2.2.7182) is available for download from Apple's iTunes store. It now allows links that are shared via the Gmail client to open in their respective Google apps. This enhancement has been extended to some of the internet giant's popular services such as Youtube, Maps and the Chrome web browser.

In effect, it means iOS users would now notice URLs (in their emails) of YouTube and Maps opening up in the corresponding installed Google apps rather than in Apple's default browser Safari (assuming that users are on Safari instead of on Chrome). iOS users can disable this feature from the Gmail app's built-in settings. Keep in mind, this feature only works when the Youtube, Google Maps, and Chrome apps are installed.

Another enhancement is to the multiple account log-in feature. This allows users to sign-out of multiple accounts; one at a time, rather than having to sign out of all accounts at once. This would be a useful update for various iOS users.

It is worth mentioning here that Google launched its YouTube iPhone app in 2012 with which the company included its video-sharing service, on the heels of the iPhone 5 launch. The last time the YouTube native app for iOS was updated was in April. With this update, users can access live video streams, along with being able to queue videos to watch on Apple's media player as well.
