Asus Fonepad 3G Tablet To Hit Indian Shores on April 24

Asus Fonepad was launched in MWC 2013 during February this year.

Asus had launched the Fonepad 7" tablet at the Mobile World Congress in February this year. However, Asus didn't seem to be too keen to bring the 7" slate to Indian shores. But after bringing the Nexus 7 (32 GB variant) to India for Rs 22,000, Asus is now preparing to launch the Fonepad 7" tab on April 24, and Telecom Lead suggests that the device will be unveiled at an event in New Delhi.

The Asus FonePad offers voice-calling and 3G connectivity, and is said to be the first Intel driven Android tablet manufactured by the company. The device is powered by Intel's Atom Z2420 processor, and comes with 1 GB of RAM. This device is slated to be released in 8 GB/16 GB internal storage variants. The tabs technical specifications include:

  • 7" 10-point multi-touch IPS screen with 1280 x 800 pixels.
  • Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS.
  • 3G voice calling and data support; Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • 1.2 MP front facing camera.
  • 3 MP rear camera (on select models).
  • Intel Atom Z2420 processor with 1 GB of RAM.
  • 16 GB / 32 GB internal storage; microSD card support.
  • Expected battery backup of 9 hours.
  • Available Colours: Titanium Grey and Champagne Gold.

Asus Fonepad 7" tablet had been launched at €219 (approx Rs 16,000), but for now its pricing in India isn't known. The major downside that plagues the tablet is its processor. Its 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2420 is the same as the one that powers Xolo's X500 mid-range smartphone. The company could have gone for a quad-core processor, similar to that on the Asus Nexus 7 instead.
