Google Celebrates Leonhard Euler's 306th Birthday With A Geometrically Animated Doodle

Features important theorems and formulae derived by the famed mathematician.

Google is celebrating the 306th birth anniversary of the Swiss mathematician and physicist Leonhard Euler with an animated doodle. Known for his pioneering work in the field of mathematics, the doodle shows off an interactive infinitesimal calculus symbol. The doodle also highlights his other renowned contributions such as Euler's formula (e ^ ix = cos x + i sin x), Euler's characteristic for polyhedrons (x = V - E + F = 2) and Euler's identity (e ^ i π + 1 = 0).

Born on 15th April, 1707, Euler's contribution extends to several fields of mathematics and physics including geometry, infinitesimal calculus, trigonometry, algebra, number theory, continuum physics, and lunar theory. He died in 1783 of a brain haemorrhage.

Apart making a mark in history, the Swiss government has honoured the scientist by featuring him on the Swiss 10-Franc banknote, apart from several postage stamps being issued in Switzerland, Germany, and Russia. A 2002 asteroid has also been named after Euler.
