To achieve greatness you need small but steady steps, and that's been exactly what Google has proved with its Android mobile operating system. However, none of what Android is today would be possible without the groundbreaking designs and concepts from manufacturers of devices running the world's most popular mobile OS.

It's been a long journey for Google, and here are some of the Android phones that will go down in history as the greats.

Samsung Galaxy

There is nothing great to speak about this, but when you think that it was this phone in 2009 that was the first of the now successful Galaxy series, this is an important one. This was the period when Samsung were almost non-existent in the smartphone market and joined hands with the little known Andoird platform of the Google.
Now when you talk about 3.2 inch AMOLED display, 128 MB RAM and Android 1.5 this is what Samsung started with look at what it is today.

HTC Hero

This was the first phone to show the importance of the interface customization. Google’s Andoird interface was pretty bad back in the day and HTC showed what a polished and customized interface could do. The Sense UI was well received by the customers, offering a completely different experience and this phone is one of the best phones by HTC.

Google Nexus One

A trend setter in its own right the Nexus  One was aimed at the tech-savvy community and was one of the first ventures by Google into the hardware aspect of the Android ecosystem. While the phone was produced by HTC, it was launched without much fanfare and didn’t sell much then. But today the Nexus range has its own fan following, which it was all about.

Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung is undoubtedly one of the brands that has revolutionized the smartphone business, so it's only fair to include two of their devices here. It was the second generation Galaxy S smartphone that helped Samsung knock HTC off the pedestal, and really set the trend for all Galaxy S devices to come. This device is literally what helped Samsung become the giant of the smartphone world they we see the company as today.

Motorola DROID

Legendary smartphone manufacturer Motorola is today seen as one of the Android trendsetters, but before the launch of the Moto X that wasn't really the case. Wrong! Back in 2009, the Motorola Droid was the rage back in the US and the device is seen as a precursor to the Android revolution. Power packed with some good specs an a strong marketing campaign, the Droid emerged as a smartphone alternative to Apple's iPhone and many of its users fondly cherish their memories.
