Yahoo! Will Offer Options To Turn Off Online Activity Tracking

The "Do Not Track" tool will be made available to all users worldwide by June 2012.

This news will come as a breath of fresh air for users who don't like search engines keeping a tab on their online activities. Yahoo! has announced that it will soon make a tool available on its websites, which will allow visitors to turn off online activity tracking that is used to target ads, among other things.

The "Do Not Track" option is expected to be made available by June across all Yahoo! products. Although most of the updated web browsers offer this option, it is disabled by default. While nothing has been said about how the tool would work, the company did specify that this will offer "a simple step for consumers to express their ad targeting preferences to Yahoo!". In plain words, your data will not be tracked, but you will continue to be bombarded with ads. This basically means that neither your privacy is compromised, nor is the company's ad revenue. Let's wait and watch how this tool works, and if it is as effective as it claims to be.
