Nokia And AudioDraft Invites Users To Create Ringtones

Top 5 participants stand to win Rs 75,000 each.

Nokia is preparing to come up with a fresh set of global ringtones by 2013, and in a bid to get something that "celebrates local music culture and styles" it has come up with a contest asking users to create these instead. The contest which started on the 20th of March and will run up to 17th of April, is a collaborated effort between the Finnish handset makers and AudioDraft. Five best ring tones will be selected and apart from the $1500 (about Rs 76,000) cash prize, these winner tunes will also be included in handsets shipping in the "specific regions they were created for".

There is a catch though, the contest is not open for seasoned musicians, but for those who are not a part of a "Collection Society". The rules page describes a "Collection Society" as "any society, association, or like organization exclusively or non-exclusively granting all or limited rights to the artistic works, or parts thereof, of its members to third parties on behalf of such members in a given territory or in any part of the world". Moreover, your sounds shouldn't been too westernized, or too dater either, and they shouldn't features any vocal element. The contest is also being conducted in Latin America, South East Asia and Pacific, Middle East and Africa, and China. If you aren't too keen on participating, you can still check out the entries and vote for the ones you like best.
