Xiaomi Could One Up Samsung With It's Dual-Edge Arch Smartphone

The puported device will feature a display with curved edges on both sides

Samsung's Galaxy Note Edge is right at the bleeding edge today's display technology, but it suffers from one fatal flaw – you've got to use the device upside down if you're left handed. Chinese giant Xiaomi now seems to have a cure to just this, with a poster seemingly revealing a device called the Arch, with two curved edges.

The poster claims that the Xiaomi Arch is the world's first phone with a dual curved screen, and rightly so, because we haven't seen anything like it before. Just like on the single edge of the Note Edge, the Arch will include notifications and controls on the two edges, putting them in perfect range of a users thumb.

There isn't much else we can go on from the purported poster, and even its credibility isn't lets say a 100 percent. For now it seems that the Xiaomi Arch could be a mere proof of concept, but deep down inside we really hope the company is actually working on it.

What use may a dual curved display offer, you might ask? But as we've seen with the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the curve makes controls that much more accessible to a users thumb. Further, the curve helps unclutter the UI by being a perfect spot for streaming information like stock prices and even sports scores.

The other thing that could keep the Xiaomi Arch out of our palms for now is the costs related to manufacturing such displays. With the Chinese company's motto being providing the 'best bang for your buck', it's hard to see how such a device could see daylight. That said, it's probably best to not underestimate Xiaomi.
