Apple Upgrades iLife App Suite

Revamped version with new apps claims to utilise Retina Display to the fullest.

Apart from newer gadgets, Apple has also paid attention to its iLife app suite to take full advantage of the latest technology these devices will sport. While a new app called the iPhoto has been launched for iPad and iPhone users, apps such as iMovie and GarageBand have also been updated.

iPhoto is said to support multi-touch features that responds to simple gestures for sorting pictures, retouching images using fingertip brushes, and share them via iCloud. They can even be posted to Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter.

The updated iMovie app enables users to record HD video through iDevices. A new Theater view offers nine templates to preview videos, which include Fairy Tale, Superhero, and Romance themes. Users can also add customisable graphics and soundtracks to these trailer-style videos, which can be shared via YouTube, Vimeo, and FB at up to 1080p.

The final app to get updated in this suite is the GarageBand. A new Jam Session feature enables up to three users to connect wirelessly to play instruments and record live music together. Users can also collect and edit tracks after recording. The app also features a touch-based instrument called Smart Strings that lets you create musical notes via the device itself, and a new Note Editor to fine-tune the recording live. Finished songs can be shared through FB, YouTube, and SoundCloud.

iWork has also undergone some changes as it will now support 3D charts, while Keynote will now come with new builds and transition effects. Apart from these, Apple has also introduced a 5 MP iSight camera on the latest iPad that can record 1080p HD videos. Considering that the new iPad comes with Retina Display, these apps are expected to take advantage of the new technology to reproduce better color and contrasts in pictures.

iPhoto, iMovie 1.3, and GarageBand 1.2 are priced at $4.99 (Rs 250) each, while Keynote 1.6, Pages 1.6 and Numbers 1.6 will each cost $9.99 (Rs 500). However, existing users are eligible for free upgrades.
